The Space Universities Network annual workshop was hosted by the University of Nottingham on July 2 2024, and was a great success. We were delighted to welcome around 40 of our members to the event, which featured the following sessions:
- SUN Welcome & Working Group Progress
- Leah-Nani Alconcel – New intensive module on CubeSat design
- Ian Muirhead – Development of a systems modelling coursework utilising MATLAB
- Chantal Cappelletti – Update on University of Nottingham’s space engineering activities
- Heidi Theimann – EU Horizons project (ASTRAIOS) on space-related education and training in Europe
- Ian Raper – The Seven Samurai of Systems Engineering
- Alistair John – The UKRace2Space competition
- Updates from SUN’s Special Projects
- A round-table discussion on the Space Workforce Action Plan
Videos of these talks will be available to find on the SUN YouTube channel. We also enjoyed a number of shorter ‘2-minute pitches’ talks, covering the new SUN website, spacecareers.uk, UKSEDS, SpaceProjects.uk, SUN engagement funding opportunity, and using space props in outreach.
SUN would like to pass on their sincere thanks to the Curriculum Team who organised the agenda for the event, and to the team at the University of Nottingham for their hard work in making the day run so seamlessly. We also have a huge thank you to all of our speakers for sharing their ideas, and all of our attendees for joining us for the day.
Attention will soon start to turn to the 2025 edition, which has a high level to live up to following this year’s event.
